Malware protection virus ?

I restarted my laptop yesterday, and all of a sudden when I switched it on and logged in this "Malware Protection" thing came up and I couldnt open any of my programmes, every time I did it would give me error messages at the bottom right of my screen, and every now and then it would ask me to "allow" or "block" stuff. Unable to tell my parents about it, I panicked, and went onto my phone for a solution, but surfing the internet with orange has something called "orange safeguard" which means you need to be 18 years or over to view certain sites, which wasn't useful. In that time the "virus" had seemed to dissapear, and I thought by doing a simple scan with microsoft security essentials and clearing my browser history would help, seemingly it did, but today I woke up switched on my laptop and the same thing happened again. I had to wait 10 minutes or so for the virus to go away, and now I need a permanent solution to this virus, thank you. 10 points for the answer that works.
