What is safeguard glass?

Safeguard glass is a special blend of glass that is used in cars. It is made not to shatter or splinter off like ordinary window pane glass in houses and mirrors. Instead when busted it will crumble almost like a cookie if you squashed it in your hand. This may not be the best way to explain it but hopefully you get the drift of what I'm saying.
