In Wordwise, what does the GameID represent?

I've been playing Wordwise for about a year now, and this has always bugged me. Is the GameID some sort of player ranking? Looking over my past games, it looks like my GameID goes up one point every time I play a game, and another point every time I win a game. Is that right?
